As Aristides de Sousa Mendes, many other people, were guided by his/her own conscience in the troubled times of World War Two. Here is an example:
Irena Sendler was born in Poland on February 15, 1910.
Of he childhood little is known. Just that she was greatly influenced by his father, an humble  doctor. During the time of the Holocaust, Irena was not idly: she had to do something! Every day, Irena was carrying a large suitcase and was accompanied by a dog. And every day, Irena entered and left the camp, past the guards. Upon returning from her walk when passing the guards, the dog was barking furiously, as he saw the danger in them. Within this huge suitcase, traveled always a child, who after the war ended, would be given to his/her parents. With this gesture, Irena Sendler saved 2,500 children from death in the nazi's concentration camps. She married and had a daughter. On May 15, 2008, she died in a hospital in Warsaw.
Dear anonymous
Thank you for your comment
The blog started with a group of students of a religious class who decided to create a blog about people who used their lives to make a better world.
We started with Nelson Mandela and now we're researching Aristides de Sousa Mendes
Aristides over passed the rules but it was for a good cause - to save the life of thousands of people who otherwise would be killed by the nazis - he followed his consciousness and doing so he changed the world!
Once again thank you and please get in touch!

Dear Anonymous,
Hello!
First of all we would like to thank you for your comment on our blog. It’s very important for us to have some feedback on our work.
We support Aristides de Sousa Mendes because he sacrificed his job and, most importantly, his life to save thousands of Jews. He proved to be brave when he stood against the prime minister.
We think that he followed his conscience and that rarely happens nowadays! He saved many people.
Nowadays who would be brave enough to do that?
These are the reasons why we support him.
